V8s here “for foreseeable future”: US and Australia Agree.

By  |

Phew, that’s a relief….

Alan Swanson, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Australia’s senior manager of product strategy, stated Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler V8s will be here for some time, ‘For as long as we can have cars like that, we’ll take them.’, But talk is abound of Hemi V8s being axed in 2019, to be replaced with turbo six-cylinder engines. If this is global or just in Aus., not quite sure at this stage.

Models such as the Australian Chrysler 300 SRT will be flying the flag for the V8, but with the popularity of the top muscle cars in the US, I cannot see the expedient phase out even by 2019 with such enthusiasm for the V8 engine still peaking.

If you look back to the golden era of muscle cars to present day, there has always been periods of tighter fuel emissions, oil prices, etc., but the V8 engine still hangs around and is still being used, from muscle cars to maga cars.
This may mean that the V8 will eventually will be used to further the highest end vehicles, but that doesn’t mean that we still can’t enjoy them on the road, even if we do have to buy used from now on.

We can only say that like all markets, consumer sales rule. So if we keep buying V8s, they’ll keep making them.
