Muscle Car Talk: The Forgotten Few
By Mark Weisseg
A few cars tend to slip by us collectors and lovers of the automobile. Here is one for the ages. The Barracuda. This beauty belongs to a local guy. He has taken a few liberties with the car but the liberties were done correctly.
The Barracuda which most of us know are from 1970 onwards. The ones from 1964-1969 have the design you see here and are usually over looked.
We all know about the Cuda, or the Hemi engine or the Dodge Chargers back in the day. But this light weight car with its various engines – 225cu.(3.7 L) Slant 6 to the huge 426cu.(7L) V8, were really nice cars. That big back glass made the car unique.
I dread to think what it would take to replace that in today’s money but the styling cues were very cool. The car just kind of got lost in the shuffle back in the day. Today, few survive or are loved the way they should be.
This Barracuda has a 340 V8 engine and she will get up and go. Take a close look at the engine. Simple, tastefully done and correct. It seems like when I see a Barracuda at a show they are either original kind of plain Jane looking or jacked up like this one. Hats off and a big smile to the owner of this beauty. I hope they get many more miles of smiles as they tool around in this beautiful Barracuda.
So, remember that the Plymouth Barracuda how many guises from 1964 to 1974, each of them cool in their own right.
