A Convertible Superbird??

Is it possible Plymouth built some secret convertibles and only now they have been discovered? Did the President really meet with aliens from the planet Zoltar last week? Well, this is not the cover of a weekly newspaper here in the States but someone did take it upon them selves to cut the roof off a Bird and make it a big rag top.

It pretty darn unusual and it’s a big challenge when you take the roof off a car, you have the tendency to loose the strength of the car.
The car become loose and the driver feels as though something on the front end is loose or falling off. Does the car look better without the top? That’s an opinion all of us can debate but, I will stay with the hardtop with its vinyl.

Back in the day the Superbird had a vinyl top. Back when we wore bell bottom jeans some of the hottest cars had vinyl tops.
My 69 Road Runner has a white vinyl top. Yes, it’s a bitch to keep clean especially after seeing a near perfect example of my car at a show two years ago with the easy to clean black vinyl top.

But, no top at all seems very odd to me. I guess if you lived in sunny California but in most areas of the country, the idea would be just an idea and not a dream come true.

There are a few examples of convertible super birds around, some of them clones. Some of them actual super birds, the top-hacked off. As the Superbird was produced in such limited numbers, a ragtop version doesn’t seem right.
