The 1980’s wasn’t exactly the standout decade for muscle cars for either design or performance in general. Most designs and engine sizes tried to follow European sensibilities, but that also meant weaker power ratings. Some still stand out today such as the 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2, 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, 1985 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z, 1983 Chevy Monte Carlo SS, but the top of the heap was definitely the Buick Grand National and the Buick GNX with only 547 of the GNX produced. As Dudley Moore said in the movie Crazy People, ‘it’s boxy but it’s good,’ really did’t just apply to the Volvo, it also applied to the Grand National.

This 1987 Buick Grand National has only 49 miles on the clock and has spent most of its life indoors. It still has the dealer transport protections, tags, and stickers. Basically, it’s like it just rolled from the showroom from 1987 into 2018.

The car is fully optioned and has the Factory Hatch Roof (T-Tops), 342 Posi rear end option, Concert Sound option, Factory gauges, Passenger side rear mirror controller option, Rear Defrost option, Power windows and locks and Power seats. Everything that a mullet wearing man with shoulder pads and rolled up sleeves in the 80s could ever want (….don’t mock, everyone looked like that back then.)

Clearly this is a time capsule of a vehicle from one of the best of the decade, with even the interior still bagged up in plastic like it just came from the factory. It’s a shame that in many of the images the car is very dusty, especially when they are asking more than $70k. Clearly this is an ultralow mileage rarity, but it seems that the highest price Grand National I can find at the moment is for $45k, with many going around the mid- $25k mark but with far higher mileage.

It will be very interesting to see what the final sell price is for this Grand National as it surely is the most pristine example of its breed, but is it worth the extra cost? I would like to think so.
