Muscle Car
1950 Chevrolet Race Car
By Mark Weisseg
Can you see the flames someone painted on the fenders by the front wheels? I recall guys painting the entire underneath of a car to make it look faster. So many different gimmicks that once ruled the road are now gone and I am happy about that.
But, the little flames were quite cool. The owner could have made huge flames down the entire side but, he decided on subtle little flames. Just enough to make you smile and admire the car even more.
The fifty Chevy has had songs written about it more than likely because it is easy to rhyme. I say that as the car had a little six cylinder and a three speed on the column back in the day. The long sleek lines made this car a fastback. Everything else on the car was big. The hood is huge, the two doors are massive and you gotta love those rear fenders. That touch really made this car look cool. The body makes it easy to make anything you wish out of it and the guys that designed it so many years ago were more forward thinking than we give them credit for.
Back in the day it was a big darn deal every year when the car companies introduced the new line up. Generally, back in the day it was in the month of September and shows were wrapped around the introductions.
The 1950 Chevy was a good, solid car. It probably deserves more attention today than we give it.
