The beauty of a rat rod is from a distance the car doesn’t look like much, but under the skin it can be as powerful as anything else out there. This 1962 Mercury Comet shows this fact very well with a retrofitted 429 engine, not available in its original 62 year. 1962 was the first generation of the Mercury Comet, originally introduced in 1960.

The increase in power and performance gives this Comet the ability to hit the eighth mile in 6.11 seconds at 115mph, with its tubular chassis and other minor improvements such as the rear wing which came from an old tin roof off an old barn.

This race comes from Lights Out 8, Georgia and is a great testament to show raw displacement. It’s also a fine show of what you can do with any type of ratty muscle car.
