Kyle And Richard Petty Race With Jay Leno

It’s not often you get two generations of race driver on the track at the same time, but during an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage this is exactly what happens. Richard Petty and son Kyle Petty meet up at the Petty Auto Club Speedway for a little head to head race. Ok, its not really a head to head race, but it’s great to see both cars side-by-side tootling round the track.

The Superbird is the focus here, still has a cool design even by today’s standards and really didn’t live up to its potential. The Superbird could hit 200mph back in 1970 before many of today’s supercar’s designers were even born, never mind their creations. If allowed to carry on instead of being banned as a winged car at the time, the Superbird may have dominated NASCAR. But in any case, it’s still great to see Richard Petty in his bespoke blue 43 Plymouth Superbird in its native environment.
