A one off Ford Mustang GT has been created by Ford Performance and Gittin’s RTR Vehicles to pay tribute to American fighter pilots who voluntarily served in the Royal Air Force before America officially got involved in World War II. The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT fastback is dressed in Royal Air Force livery and will debut at the UK Goodwood hill climb driven by world champion drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr.

The Mustang will then head to the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture Gathering of Eagles, Oshkosh, Wisconsin and then be auctioned with all proceeds going to the EAA Young Eagles charity on July 26. This will both support young and upcoming pilots and remember the heroes of the past. The auction winner will be invited to the annual Ford Woodward Dream Cruise, Detroit for delivery along with a plaque signed by Gittin and the design Ford team.

‘Supporting young pilots through the EAA charity auction reflects Ford’s aviation history, tracing back to the company’s early days and the Arsenal of Democracy during WWII,’ stated Darrell Behmer, design chief Ford Mustang. ‘The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT build with Vaughn and the Ford design team is a great way to honor our heroes and keep the spirit of aviation alive for the next generation of American pilots.’

The Mustang GT is inspired from the Royal Air Force Eagle squadrons with an upgraded 5.0 litre V8 and Ford Performance supercharger producing 710HP, a RTR carbon fiber wide body kit and Tactical Performance suspension package.
