Car Talk: Basic, Clean Cars Are Everywhere

I know this is only a Dodge Diplomat, but this post is about finding very clean examples, not just a cool muscle car.

I was in Chicago last week and saw this car. My brother and I stopped at a florist to buy flowers for a grave site and this Dodge Diplomat was sitting in the parking lot with a ‘For Sale’ sign on it.

I started circling the place asking everybody I come across if the mighty Dodge belonged to them. Nobody would fess up to it and that bothered me. Nobody knew? So, I discover it is not anyone who works here so it must be someone in the neighborhood who parked it here for great exposure on this busy road.

The car was an unmolested Dodge. The blue interior was cloth and had some upgrades to it that made it very pleasant back in the day. Today, it might not be everybody’s cup of tea.

The exterior as you can see was as straight as an arrow with no body work ever done to it. It had some slightly faded areas and a few small dings and scratches on the body and the car did not have a lot of miles on it. For a Chicago car with brutal winters and hot humid summers this car was clean. My guess is someone bought this new and now was too old to drive it anymore. It’s an old neighborhood, that’s how I got my opinion on that one.

The only problems I saw with this car was that fact that it is a Dodge Diplomat. Sold as a luxury car back in the day but, it really wasn’t. Rear wheel drive also makes snow driving much tougher but this car looks like it did not see much bad weather. It was almost a shame I did not know of anyone looking for a great used car. Yes, a bit boxy and clunky but a great car for the teenager just learning how to hit things or just a second or third car to have just in case. I mean upkeep would be nil and insurance would be so low it would be criminal.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this car I saw in the Windy City. Not as a prized find, but to show that clean examples of cars can pop up anywhere, you just have to be on alert all the time.

Believe me, when I am traveling my head must look like its on a swivel. I search and look everywhere and this is the best I could do here. Major fail in the muscle car stakes, but it could be a lot worse.
