Barrett Jackson is one of the premier auction houses for selling possibly the best of the best when it comes to muscle cars and the January auction at Scottsdale was no exception. One of our esteemed writers Mark Weisseg was there to catch the action and gave us a rundown of the top-selling muscle cars at the January event.

2012 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder by Steven Tyler

Lot #3003 received much attention, eventually selling for $800,000 as it was owned by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and driven onto the stage itself by the rock god. Bidding was going to be high with the presence of the man himself and he even threw in a week at his Maui beach house to sweeten the deal. The sale of the car went to the Janie’s Fund charity which helps abused girls.

Lot #1365 fetched a nice price at $445,500 for this 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastback which featured a Paxton Supercharger conversion amongst its other attributes.

1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429

Lot #140 which went for $385,000 was this magnificent 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429. The ‘KK’ code NASCAR motored car had a four-speed manual and came from the Reggie Jackson collection.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette 327/360

Lot #1393 went under the hammer for $385,000 which was a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Fuelie which was only available for one year, ramping up its rarity. Coming in Sebring Silver and restored by Naber’s of Houston shop, Texas, it was a sure crowdpleaser.

1958 Chevrolet Corvette 283/230 Convertible

Lot #478 went under the hammer for $111,100.00 which was said to be produced for only one year with a louvered hood, chrome trim, which uniquely contoured the trunk and the first four headlight system with specialist dash. Finished in Signet Red with Snowcrest White cove accents, charcoal interior, rare factory-ordered Powerglide automatic transmission, the car was a sure crowd pleaser.

1971 Ford Torino Custom

Lot #7001 may not have been a big seller, going for $5,500, but it sure was the curiosity of the show. A 3-D printed vehicle with liquid metal fused the old with the ultramodern and seemed to be more of an art piece than anything else. At least it will scare the neighbours.
