Which Muscle Car Was The Best Seller In 2018?

Unsurprisingly, the Ford Mustang was the best selling muscle car of 2018, having success both abroad and domestically. The Mustang sold 75,842 units which was a decrease of 7.4%, with Dodge coming second selling 66,716 Challengers and then Chevrolet with 50,963 Camaro sales both dropping 25%. Many pundits predicted that muscle and pony car sales would have died off years ago, especially in an age of evermore electric vehicles. But the success proves the point that muscle cars are here to stay.

Both Ford and Dodge had standout models in 2018. Ford releasing the Steve McQueen Bullitt Mustang and marked their 50th anniversary. Dodge has kept interest levels up with the release of the Demon, Redeye(797hp) and all wheel drive models, along with the ongoing success of the Hellcat. The Demon SRT Challenger still has the title of most powerful muscle car and has gone a long way to keep up the widespread popularity of the muscle car.

Ford are set to debut a new version of the Shelby Mustang GT500 at the Detroit Auto Show, Jan 14th. There are no specifics about the vehicle as yet apart from it will be over 700hp. General Motors on the other hand are working on a mid-engined supercar with possibly up to 1,000hp, but will clearly be more supercar than muscle car in design.
