The Pink Panther: Panthermobile
Saturday morning cartoons were a wholesome part of the diet of a certain generation.
One of the most famous of these was the Pink Panther show that aired on NBC from 1969 until 1976.
During the opening credits (as below) you will see the infamous Panthermobile!
This futuristic looking vehicle was a complete one-off, one-of-a-kind car designed by Jay Ohrberg, the same guy behind the Batmobile, Knight Riders K.I.T.T. and the Back to the Future DeLorean.
The car was never street legal but did originally have a working Swansea V5 engine.
The Panthermobile was in Jay Ohrberg’s possession until 2007, when it was auctioned by Coys. The car popped up again in 2011 at auction then news of the car has gone quiet ever since.
It may be more of a novelty car and more to pinpoint a moment in time, but it still shows the wild creativity of the times, way more about cool looks and possibilities, than anything else.
Now you can do it, go on, do the theme tune, ‘da,da….da,da….daa,da,daa,da,daa,dah……da,da,da,dah…..!’
The Pink Panther Show Original Opening (nostalgia trip of the day!) (who out there wanted to be the kid driving the car?!?)
