The Heavy Chevy Chevelle

Few cars of the late 1960’s and early 70’s were as hard core as the Chevelle. Even today, all these years later the Chevelle from 1969 and 1970 still bring in big money. Why? Why would a car that could have a 307 or a 350 V8 under the hood be so valuable? Answer. Because some were smart enough to buy the car with the nasty 396 or the monster 454.

They called the 454 the heavy Chevy at one time and not because it weighed so much. The “heavy Chevy” was a slang or nickname back in the time that really meant the car was a badass.

Even today the SS 396 and 454 captivates the audiences when presented at auction. If it’s matching numbers your price you pay will increase. These were the golden days for Chevrolet and they knew it. Now, rarely do we see a 69 Chevelle driving the streets today with big fat rear tires. That was the norm at one time. Jack up that ass end, throw out the front camber and cruise the streets looking for your next victim. Oh boy those were the days.

Crank up your fm converter radio or throw the latest Eight track in and turn it up to hear it over the thrush mufflers. Man that kind of talk is nice. But, the Chevelle with the big V8 engines and with its light rear end could make for a good hot rod. Could? No, it did. These were all over America setting the tone for what would be a life long love affair. Now, here we are in the year 2017 and the Chevelle’s of that time stamp are as hot as ever. Sometimes my friends the good old days really were just that.
