Ford Mustang Mach 1 Replaces The Bullitt
By Dave Ashton
It seems Ford have been playing around with the Mach 1 name for some time, trying to find the ideal fit for name and machine. Resurrecting an old school muscle car name, brings with it a lot of associations and they nearly missed the mark when the Mustang Mach-E almost snagged the title.
Fans were clearly not happy with an EV nicking the title, but now it seems that the Ford Mustang Mach 1 will be coming back in 2021 as a possible replacement for the Mustang Bullitt. The Mustang is planned to be built at the Flat Rock assembly plant, Detroit, which is due for a $250 million upgrade and the new vehicle should be part of these plans.
As to what the Mustang Mach 1 will house engine wise is currently up for speculation, but some reports say the 5.0L Coyote V8 could be a viable option, with tweaked horsepower levels to 480HP. This will include an 87mm throttle body and possible workings ported from the GT350.
Although news is thin at the moment, the predicted upgrades should mean the next decade should produce some tasty vehicles from the blue oval. To find out in what shape and form, check back for regular updates.
