Movie vehicles can become hot property very quickly as most are usually disposed of after production, leaving very few left for collectors. Many get lost to history, but the few survivors can end up being worth a king’s ransom. This Dodge Challenger, which came from the Quentin Tarantino Death Proof movie is currently at a reasonable price, but that probably won’t stay the same for very long.
Apparently the car was sold by the movie’s production company 10 years ago, which was proven in the bill of sale which comes with the car. ,The production company made this ’71 challenger look like a 1970s version to mimic the Dodge Challenger from the classic movie Vanishing Point.
The car’s condition is as it came from the movie with some damage points painted on by production company at the time. The car still shows some of its movie enhancements such as camera mounting points, racing seat belts and a ‘a support in the trunk for the system that enabled the driver to lock a rear wheel.’ There is also the addition of window frames on the doors which were added so that Zoe Bell who performs the movie stunts could attach yourself to when she’s on the hood of the car during the chase scenes.
The radio is also just a plastic cover with the front seats also being reupholstered so the actresses could be seen better in the rear of the vehicle.
New items on the car are said to be the electrics being upgraded, the exhaust and mufflers and a new fuel tank. The 383 Magnum engine is said to be running well, but no indication of if this is original or not. Some internet rumours say this could have been an orginal R/T with a 440 magnum engine, but as the ad. clearly points out it is not.
Overall, movie vehicles like this one don’t pop up for sale very often, so if you’re in the market for not just a great Dodge Challenger, but a bit of movie history, you may want to shortlist this ride. Currently located in Los Angeles.
