Original Shelby Cobra CSX4000’s are about as rare as hen’s teeth and now command six-figure sums if you want an original. Being such a classic design there are many reproductions ranging from your basic kit car upwards, but if you want arguably the next best thing to the original a Continuation Series version maybe an option. These vehicles are obviously not the originals, but they do have an official stamp of approval, built in very limited numbers and do defer from the much cheaper kit cars being built from the ground up to exact Cobra specifications with the best of modern machinery.
This example was built in 2007 from Shelby Automotive Inc. keeping the original design for a true bare knuckled ride, but with ground up modern mechanicals to get the best of both worlds. You get a Ford 427ci. V8 on top of a fibreglass body version, re-engineered AC chassis with Shelby 4-inch tube frame, Shelby 4-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch Cobra Racing knock-off wheels, Shelby independent suspension and 3.31:1 Differential. It also has a Carroll Shelby signed glovebox with traditional Cobra sparse interior and leather seats. The car is basic and to the point, but that’s what makes it such a thrilling ride.
A/C Cobra’s are arguably some of the most classic designs ever produced, but with so few made, these Continuation Series cars are meant to pick up where the the last production left off, while continuing their exclusive nature. They are meant to be the next best things to the originals and would definitely suit somebody who has always lusted after an original, but is happy with the next best thing without the skyhigh pricetag. These vehicles will also continue to rise in value and do benefit from modern parts on a classic design, making them arguably more driveable and reliable in the long run.
