Ford Celebrate The 10th Millionth Mustang
It’s an amazing landmark, Ford are now celebrating the production of its 10th millionth Mustang. That’s right, 10 million ponies have been released into the wild since 1964 also making it America’s bestselling sports car of the last 50 years and the world’s best 3 years in a row. Not bad for a vehicle that has been in production for 54 years.
The 10th millionth Mustang produced is a 2019 GT convertible in Wimbledon White with a 5L/460HP V8 6 speed, much like the first Mustang ever sold, which was also a white convertible, serial number 5F08F100001. The latest one being built at Ford’s flat Rock Assembly Plant, Michigan.
The landmark vehicle is being celebrated at Ford’s Dearborn headquarters and Flat Rock Assembly Plant, which include flyovers from WWII-era P-51 Mustang fighter planes along with a parade of Mustang examples from every generation of their build.
The original Mustang was a success from day one, with more than 400,000 sold in the first year with an average price of $2,300. Initially designed as a “working man’s Thunderbird,” it was sporting nimble and available in a variety of hardtops, coupes or convertibles. Plenty of TV and movie appearances, like James Bonds ‘Goldfinger’ and the 1968 Steve McQueen ‘Bullitt’ helped cement the car in the public consciousness.
The modern Mustang is obviously a far cry from its original in design and technology, with the latest vehicles having a build and performance that rivals its competitors. EcoBoost options, GT and the top end GT350 and GT500, along with limited-edition models like the latest Bullitt Mustang and with versions for the European market, mean that there is a Mustang available for anybody wanting that unique Americana styling and performance.
