The 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird has become one of the standout vehicles of the classic muscle car era and for good reason. Overly huge exterior, big engine and loud as hell. Everything that makes muscle cars great. The car is basically a Roadrunner with a nose cone and huge rear wing to give it better aerodynamics and downforce as it was designed for NASCAR racing.

This example is said to be one of three that has power windows and has been professionally restored by John Balow and given its seal of approval by Galen Govier as #1547. The car was also featured in Mopar Muscle magazine in January 2003. The car is clearly in grade one condition as reflected by the asking price. When you get to this level of condition and asking price you can be as picky as you like with the details, essentially everything should be good enough to eat your dinner from.

One bugbear is the fact that the interior images are quite blurred. For any vehicle that is asking over $100,000, it should be mandatory that the images are top quality, even if it’s a given that the car is worth the asking price. If you’re selling a quality vehicle, give quality images. it’s only a small thing, but it can reflect on the car in general.

Superbird

It’s reckoned around 1,935 SuperBirds were built, around 130 being 426ci’s, seven main bearing 16 440ci. six-pack editions and the rest being 440s. There is no exact numbers for how many were built in each color, but it’s possible that around 23% were made in Lemon Twist Yellow. When you have a vintage muscle car that is as rare and iconic as the Superbird, you are arguably buying into being its current custodian and carer until it is passed on and this should be the mindset, irrelevant of asking price. However, price is still an issue and although the 440s are more common than the 426 Hemi V8 versions, you’re probably looking at prices well over $200,000 for this one. It will be very interested in what the eventual sale price will be. One things for sure, its an investment quality vehicle that will only go up in value and worth every penny.
