Find Of The Day: 1967 Dodge Charger White Hat Special
By Dave Ashton
Engine: 383 2 bbl
Transmission: A833 4 speed
One of 117 built.
This first generation Dodge Charger still looks as mean and moody today as it did back in the late 1960s. An answer to the Plymouth Barracuda, this example is 1 of 117 which should mean it’s worth shortlisting in anybody’s Mopar book.
There were a few white hat specials available in the Mopar lineup with the Charger having rounded, sporty instrument gauges ‘vinyl roof, power steering, console, armrest, white wall tires and wheel covers.’ This one is clearly a barn find, but it doesn’t seem as raggedy as it could be.
The ad. says it has a none original 1971 383 Hi-po motor, ‘factory correct A833 4 speed and 3.91 sure grip 8.75 rear differential’ meaning that the majority of the original parts are here. The motor is also said to be running good and the transmission shifting fine, but as with all barn finds this is a bonus more than anything.
There are obvious signs of external rusting, but on first appearances everything seems to be quite solid and even the interior and engine bay are in quite good condition.
Overall, for the asking price of $8,750 and the possible part exchange with the current owner could mean a nice winter project for one of you out there.
