I have a colleague who automatically pulls a face like he has bitten into an overly sour lemon when they see a late 70s muscle car.
The reason for this is the design and engines were nothing like the late 60s and early 70s. Almost like they were made by completely different manufacturers. as my friend would say, ‘they kind of lost the plot.’
But, like any era of cars there are good ones and bad ones.
This example is a rare pace car in original condition.
Low mileage and it doesn’t cost the earth.
It may not be the most prized Ford Mustang out that, but for the money, you can say you have a Mustang Pace car which at least has some ‘go’ under the hood.
You never know, in another decade this could be a true rarity, maybe.

‘The 1979 Mustang was selected as the pace car for the 63rd running of the Indy 500. While there were 3 non-street legal versions built to run on the track Ford went ahead and produced street legal versions for consumers to purchase. They built V8s and Turbo 4’s with fewer of the more desirable V8’s produced. This particular car is one of only 2,106 V8’s built with the Selectshift Automatic transmission. It has a rare Cruise Control option. This is a true survivor with original miles. It has complete documentation from the protecto-plate all the way to the actual punch card from the factory build. This car spent many years tucked away in a garage and it is an excellent example of a all original survivor pace car.’
