2,600 Horsepower Dodge Viper!
By Dave Ashton
According to the great guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, less isn’t more, more is more. This is the same mindset for this Calvo Motorsports built, 2600WHP Sequential Twin Turbo Dodge Viper, which also kicks out 2000lb-ft. of torque.
The Dodge Viper in stock form already contains gobs of power. Equipped with an 8.4L V10 engine, a stock Viper can produce 645 horsepower and 600lb. ft. of torque, laying down a 3.5 second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 206 mph.
To produce the power levels on this custom Viper some serious upgrades were put in place. Starting with a 9L Stroker engine and a twin-turbo 8685 setup. For the fastest of gear changes, a PPG sequential transmission and Motec engine management were installed and then tuned by Ninjaneering. Forgeline wheels were used, with 18 inch wheels at the rear and carbon-ceramic brakes. Also, the whole engine and bracing is made from forged carbon fiber.
If you skip to roughly the 2.40 mark in the video, you can see the Viper taking on a McLaren and a 1200HP Mustang using a meager 1600HP. In both clips, the Viper is clearly out accelerating the other two vehicles. There’s even a bunch of high-powered motorbikes which the Viper zooms past. In the words of Ryan, the current owner of the Viper, the car hasn’t lost a race yet.
The reaction of the passenger at the seven minute mark sums things up. The car keeps heaping on the power with every gear change, progressively getting faster and faster.
Even if you’re not into the muscle car thing, this video is worth watching to see how engineering can push a vehicle to these power level heights.
