By Dave Ashton

The Dodge Challenger is maturing nicely since its introduction in 2008 and 2019 will see some changes throughout the lineup and a heavy influence passing down the range from the limited edition 840-horsepower SRT Demon earlier this year.

The 2019 SRT Hellcat Redeye will adopt many of the Demon features like a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque, top speed 203 mph, 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 131 mph. It will also gain some of the electronic gadgetry as found in the Demon.

The Hellcat will also have a horsepower and torque increase from it’s current 707 hp and 650 lb-ft. to 717 hp and 656 lb-ft. This equates to a quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds with a wide body option. Without the wide-body add-on an extra 0.3 of a second. The Challenger Hellcat will also feature a fully functional dual-snorkel hood influenced from back in the day for maximum airflow into the engine. There’s also upgraded features like the launch control, launch assist, torque reserve and line lock.

As above, the Demons influence has filtered down through the lineup with the R/T Scat Pack getting the wide-body look, accompanied by a 6.4-liter V8, 485 hp and 475 lb-ft, at $40,000. The R/T Scat Pack is also treated to Launch Control, Launch Assist and Line Lock, SRT-tuned chassis and rear spoiler from the Hellcat.

At the other end of the spectrum, the SXT will still be available with its 3.6L Pentastar V6 with 305 HP in both rear wheel and all wheel drive, starting at $27,295 msrp. The R/T Scat Pack comes in at $38,995 (plus $1,000 gas guzzler tax for manual transmission), while the Hellcat starts at $71,350. These include a $1,395 destination charge.

The whole Challenger and Charger lineup is set for a redesign in 2021, which may keep the current platform with a heavily updated design or even opt for the current platform as used by the Alfa Romeo or Maserati.
