1986 Corvette Indy Concept Muscle Car

I love the concept car, mainly because they’re usually wild exaggerations of what will end up being the production vehicle.
Some we have to admit do end up looking like a Salvador Dali nightmare, but some designs do have those elements which do end up making a classic vehicle.

This Chevy Indy concept car was debuted at the 1986 Detroit Auto Show. it obviously never reach production, but was used as a testbed for Chevy production vehicles of the time.

The concept was born out of Chevrolet having links with Lotus aznd their suspension technology, Ilmor Engineering for their V-8 engines and to showcase a range of the latest technologies such as four-wheel-drive steering. carbon Kevlar monocoque design was trialled which found its way into future designs.
Other technologies such as climate and audio controls, and the type of navigation screen were all developments.

With a 2.65 L V8, the car could produce around 380 hp and 370Lbs torque, not too bad for this size of engine.
0 to 60 in less than five seconds and a top speed of hundred 80 miles an hour.

The concept car eventually led onto other prototypes, like the CERV III, also used to test out technologies like the fly by wire throttle.

Just like when you see kids of your friends, you can see looks of both parents and possibly what their children will look like. These concept cars standards signposts to what has been and what is next to come.
