Series 62. 335 bhp, 365 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine, four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, coil-spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf-spring suspension, and four-wheel hydraulically actuated power drum brakes. Wheelbase: 129.5 in.

This Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz ‘Raindrop’ Prototype is a very special gem.
Unique features include the laminated body, elimination of most of the body mouldings – both bumpers colour matched to the car, backup lights relocated under the license plate, add to this car’s exclusivity.

The car was reportedly given to GM Styling Director Harley Earl on his retirement and documentation shows Mr Earl driving the car which had the working raindrop system at the time.
The write-up from the auction doesn’t exactly state Mr Earl designed the car, but there are definitely notes in the design which point Mr Earl.

Maybe the styling looks even more incredible now, as it stands out even more amongst today’s ultra-streamlined and aerodynamic vehicles. Style, class and poise were the order of the day when this car was designed and ironically, the design has stood the test of time.
Will vehicles made today look as equally stylish in 50+ years? hmmm…….
