The Five Best Muscle Car Investments

As a friend said, the best muscle car investment is the car you currently own, always!

If money was no object, then the list would be just a bunch of Plymouth Barracudas and Shelby’s, as obvious an investment as shares in Apple. But the muscle car era produced many examples which, with some research could make anyone a great buy.

1. 1987 Buick Regal GNX:

2. 1977 Pontiac Trans Am:

3. 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra R:

4. 1994-96 Chevrolet Impala SS

5. 1997 Pontiac Trans Am Firehawk LT4

These 5 ‘post’ golden era muscle car are great buys, with tons of fun (the 5 above compiled by https://www.yahoo.com/autos/5-great-muscle-car-investments-121295832264.html)

But what about golden muscle car era picks?
That is a harder task, mostly as it is common knowledge that a classic muscle car has potential worth, in any condition, but some have more potential than others.
Aside from Plymouth Barracudas and Shelby’s, the Mopar pack are considerations. Dodge Charger and Challenger R/T models, matching numbers engines and transmissions are the ideal and obviously very low mileage. Any listing with the word ‘Hemi’ should make you look at the listing twice. Arguably the best of the muscle car era engines.
The obvious makes and models will always fetch the most – Plymouths, Corvettes, Mustangs, Challengers, Camaros and Pontiacs but you can always find great examples from the other makes – Oldsmobiles, Mercurys, AMCs, even.

Look for rare factory options. These make or break a classic muscle car. The rarest vehicles are those where only a few survive which had a unique combination of options. If the seller is not shouting about these options and there is no documentation to back up the options being claimed, then they are more than likely never included on the vehicle.

Classic muscle cars also have the added complication of they could be all original, all original restored or a restomod ( old looks, new parts). A completely original and untouched vehicle will always be worth the most, but the longer the story that can be told of a certain cars back history – as in documentation, the more its potential worth.

Like all smart purchases, a car buying journey will always start with your budget. figure that out first, then go from there.
