Shelby Cobra CSX 2000: The Most Expensive American Car?
The first-ever Shelby Cobra will come up for auction at the Pebble Beach Concours de’Elegance Monterey, California next month, expected to be the next most expensive American car sold at auction.
RM Sotheby’s have called the car ‘The shot heard ’round the world.’ The first time Carroll Shelby fitted an American V8 engine into a British car body, which has resonated in the car world ever since.
This vehicle has a chassis number of CSX 2000 and was owned by Carroll Shelby until his death at the age of 89 in 2012.
The car has the original 260 CI V8 engine, which came from a Ford Fairline. The body is an AC Ace, which was known for excellent balance, light body and great looks.
There is no official estimates of the potential final price, but it’s expected to beat the current most expensive American car being a 1968 Ford GT40 which sold at RM Sotheby’s Pebble Beach in 2012 for $11 million.
