The Realities Of Muscle Car Restoration
By Mark Weisseg
Sure I wish I had all of the space and money to buy one of these, a full rotisserie restoration setup.
My gosh it might actually be fun to do a full blown restoration with this gear. I would guess the majority of us do not have one. I wish I did. A friend of mine said he was buying one but until I see that mother set up I don’t believe it. That is where we need to be careful.
We all love watching these car shows on TEE VEE and watch the cast put together a car in three weeks. Like we all have a lift, a rotator, and a cast of seven to do the work. And of course an endless supply of parts that ship in daily. Nope.
Most of us are lucky to have a bay, maybe two in order to get our cars restored. If we farm anything out it takes months to get done what you hope and then you find you are broke again. That is the real world.
I see the ads; frame off or full nut and bolt restoration. Geez, who did it? Well, I have a buddy….. Yes a buddy that charges $100.00 per hour. I might sound a bit tainted here or gruff but I tire of these shows that make a restoration look easy and simple. It’s far from it.
It’s hard work and it’s not a lot of laughs. And we don’t get breaks to go look for another car to flip. All BS. So, for all you real world guys and gals who make do with basic equipment, I want to say I am with you. I respect you and I want you to succeed. Keep the faith.
