The second-generation Pontiac Firebird’s are when the vehicles started to hit their stride. The first generation vehicles from 1967 to 1969 gave the genesis of the design, but it was the next generation that is arguably the most classic. Like other muscle car types, it had its design changes throughout the 70s and onwards, but unlike the others, it seemed to hit another high point around the late 70s and early 80s with the Smokey the Bandit type design. Even up to the last run editions which ended in 2002 the Firebird kept its looks, which can’t be said for many other vehicles in its class, which all had the arguable low design points.
This 1970s edition has a 400c.i. V8 4bbl Ram Air III, factory 4-speed transmission which is numbers matching, with 345hp and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Classic wheels are a must here and they sit on BF Goodrich radial T/A’s.
The car is said to have been a multiple qualifier for Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Cars & Coffee events and other shows which should reflect its current condition. There’s no mention of its mileage, but the car does come with apparently loads of documents and receipts to back up its authenticity. 7,708 Formula 400’s were produced in 1970, with 1,769 Ram Air III’s being manuals, meaning the car is quite a rarity for more information on this point would have been helpful.
The ad. says Hagerty value is around S60K, so the question is would you pay the asking price of $39000?
