It’s factory-correct code-M Wimbledon White paint was made famous by its little brother Mustang. But this coupe wears it with its own style thanks to a very professional respray and a new application of the unique laser stripe down the side. This one has all the right elements to be car show-ready like the exceptionally straight body and fresh chrome bumpers. But what people really love are performance styling cues. Up front it’s the blacked-out hood, large scoop, hood pins, chin spoiler, and the optional hidden headlights. Out back the louvered rear window looks racy and the streamlined trunk with ducktail spoiler was truly a NASCAR inspiration for the road. It is all capped off with those unmistakable Ford Magnum 500 wheels.
The interior has that perfect mix of mean muscle and luxury cruiser. This one has that unmistakable comfort weave knit vinyl that was a hallmark of 1970s Fords. It feels quite comfy on these optional (but factory correct) high-back bucket seats with optional center console for a true individual experience up front. The big, wide instrument panel puts all the controls right in front of the driver, including provisions for the factory air conditioning. The darkness of the fresh black on the seats, doors, carpet, and headliner is broken up in the details like the wood paneling on the steering wheel and the brightwork around the gearshift. There’s even a shiny auxiliary gauge under the dash and the super rare factory “ribbon” tachometer.
One of this coupe’s best options you’ll spot on the included dealer invoice is the 429 cubic-inch Cobra Jet V8. So it will make you quite happy to pop the hood and see a CJ big block with four-barrel carburetor staring back at you. Ford blue on the engine block, finned valve covers, and tidy belts and hoses all add up to a show-quality engine bay. It fires up with authority, and the dual exhaust lets everyone know you have a big block lurking under the hood. But this is more that just a car for showing off. The three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes make this a great all-around cruiser. In fact, the limited slip rear end with versatile 3.00 gears gives you the freedom to use the Torino GT for everything you want to do in a classic muscle car.
