Now Everyone Can Have A Mobile Wind Tunnel

Ford creates mobile wind tunnel housed in shipping container.

Well, it’s not exactly that mobile, but Ford have created the next best thing to a mobile aeroacoustic wind tunnel, which can be constructed and taken down within a day to any of Fords North American production facilities.

The mobile windtunnel is made up of three shipping containers all fully equipped with in cabin sensors and all the regular stuff you find in a wind tunnel.

Two 16 blade, 1.8m diameter duct fans are used with the front and back doors of the containers open to create air intakes and outlet nozzles.
A third container is used for power and the control center.

These mobile units will allow Ford and their engineers to easily test out pre-production vehicles wherever they like without shipping vehicles from one location to another. This will hopefully make it easier to solve problems for future cars.
