My 1969 Oldsmobile 442 By Todd Cooper
This Readers Ride submission is from Todd Cooper, initially showing off not only his fantastic Oldsmobile 442, also his wonderful Pontiac. However, today’s focus is on the Oldsmobile.
The Oldsmobile 442 was originally an options package for the F-85 and the Cutlass models, but became it’s own model between 1968 and 1971.
There is always some confusion over the meaning of the ‘442’ moniker, but as all Oldsmobile 442 owners know, it stands for the car being 442 times better than any car of that year… only joking…. it was the 4 barrel carburettor, 4 speed manual transmission and 2 exhausts. Originally the badging was ‘4-4-2’, then became 442.
Over to Todd to explain his great ride…..
‘This 442 sat in a barn for a number of years and was in excellent shape with no rust. It has all of the original body panels and floorboards.
Mice had destroyed the seats, so they had to be re-upholstered. The original numbers matching 400 motor and TH400 transmission were pulled and put in storage and replaced with a 455ci bored to 470ci that produces 450hp. It has Comp cams., hydraulic roller, Edelbrock heads and intake, Holley 850 double pumper, 3 inch exhaust with electric exhaust diverter system.
TH400 reverse pattern manual valve body transmission and the original 3.23 Limited Slip rear end.’
