Muscle Car Talk: The Realities Of Car Restoration
By Mark Weisseg
When I see a Charger on a trailer I am one happy cat. Happy that someone is going to restore a wonderful car and happy I am not doing it.
You see as you tear this car down the piles of parts grows to the point that you believe they are growing. The big stuff like fenders, hoods, and trunk are easy. It is when the nuts, bolts, clips and all those little pieces are in the floor you start wondering what you got yourself into.
If you want to play a joke on a friend before he organizes everything bring over a coffee can full of washers, nuts, bolts, screws and clips. It will drive him mad. And that brings me to my most important point. Please label and store everything.
You think you are going to remember where that clip belongs but a year from now you won’t. Take the time to label and organize or you will have a problem nobody desires. What is that? Extra parts. Now, not a hood or door but if you have a handful or more of extra screws and such you did not do the job right. Take the extra time to label. Otherwise you will be Charlie Tuna stuck in a can. Do it right or pass it to someone who will.
