Muscle Car Sales Now In Line With the Rest Of the Car Market

Muscle car sales seem to have fallen in line with the rest of the automotive market, but is this a sign of muscle cars sales slowing down?

Sales of muscle cars in the last two years have increased further than the rest of the market, but are now in line after hitting a five-year peak in 2015.

General car sales from Jan.-July, 2016 were 4,139,064 with a -8.5% change, while muscle car sales were at 154,882 with a change of -8.4%. These figures encompass the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger.

Some may feel that this could be a worrying standpoint for new muscle cars as they are a more discretionary purchases rather than functional. However, this doesn’t reflect the overall details of how each model brand are doing in general.

Each brand have changed models, with different price increases and some being very limited numbers, but that doesn’t stop the public buying them in droves.
The one benefit the muscle car market does have is brand loyalty. Customers who own a Mustang, Camaro or Challenger are more likely to stay with that brand probably have a history of being fans of muscle cars.

When you look at the wider picture, muscle car sales have always been a small part of the general automotive landscape and those that buy into new muscle cars usually stay with them.
As more makes and models are being revived, it seems that this temporary dip is just coming in line with the rest of the market.
