Mr. Angry: 1968 Dodge Charger
By Mark Weisseg
Even the license plate up front calls the car angry and there could not be a better term. This particular ’68 Dodge Charger is owned by Mike Musto at ridelust.com.
Whether a Charger is a 383 or a 440, it’s beauty just hides an angry side.
We all know the ’68 to ’70 Chargers were amazingly cool cars. They are our fast classic muscle cars as we know them today. They did not come with a little four cylinder and single exhaust. When you bought a Charger back in the day, it was not to go to buy groceries on Sunday afternoon. Nope, it was a high end cruiser that prowled the roads looking for trouble and usually found it.
The car today is iconic and the prices are sky high, no matter what condition you find them in. They beg for a restoration and need to be driven on the road. It’s like locking up a wild boar.
We have seen these cars rocket to untold popularity over the years and even today, if someone finds one that was neglected, the suitors line up for a chance to buy it.
They made two colors that stand out for this car in my opinion. The dark green and the black you see in this picture. Of course other colors were available but something made us back in the day lean more toward the green and black. When Chrysler started putting on that racing gas cap, all bets were off. What a cool idea.
The only item better to me was the 1970 grille. If that doesn’t get you warmed up, I suggest you start collecting marbles.
I hope at this stage, we have not found every Charger out there yet. I hope more are in garages or barns waiting for guys like you and me to bring them back to life and let them prowl the streets again, as shown by Mr. Angry.
