Indianapolis Retired Racers Rediscover Their Glory Days

The 2016 Brickyard Invitational is a gathering of over 500 vintage racecars at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which isn’t just a nostalgic look at the racing cars of old, but to bring back some the past champions to prove they still have it.

In some ways, the race is not just about who will win, but the taking part and the reminder to the drivers of who they once were and what they once did.
One such driver Davy Jones, who took the Crown at the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans in second place in the Indy 500 the same year, finds it difficult in retirement to watch the same race.

These feelings are totally understandable. These once racing champions, who lived and breathed the sport day in and day out, suddenly stop and are expected to change direction in life. move on, do something new. Some take to this, but some do not. So, the chance to relive some of those past feelings is oh so important.

The chance to reinvigorate your own identity as a race driving, or whatever it may be, should be the message taken home here.
Just because we age, doesn’t mean we can’t still take part. We may not be able to compete at the same level, but we can still enjoy the activities and that should never be forgotten. The drivers here who wants champions in their own rights, the chance to relive some of those glory days that small injection of emotion is enough to keep going until the next event.
