The Incredible 50s/60s Camaro Z/409 Comes To Life
By Dave Ashton
Custom muscle cars usually come in the form of vintage bodies with modern parts, but every so often a vehicle pops up which tries to reimagine a vehicle of the past. This is the case with the Camaro Z/409.
The idea behind the Camaro ‘Z/409′ was to reimagine what GM would have produced if the Camaro came out in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The images were first produced for hot Rod magazine in 2009, with Nostalgia Motor Sports now making the car a reality. This means that all the styling and mechanics are influenced by that era rather than the modern.
The roofline has been re-profiled similar to the Corvair, with the rear window having a more bulbous shape and being mounted flush with the body. The front and rear of the car. I’ve included a 57 grille badge and a ’61 Chevy tail panel. The interior features the fittings from a 1961 Bel Air with period seats and upholstery to finish off the retro feel.
The engine is also a retro-edition featuring a 1962 409ci V8 producing 500 HP through a 4 speed manual transmission.
The car gives a great interpretation of what could have been, along with producing a vehicle that is astoundingly unique.
