Always being an admirer of Australia muscle cars, its good news to hear that Holden will be keeping its multi-million dollar collection of cars in Australia, after its assembly plant and lines close in 2017.

It almost seems like Australian muscle cars were kicked in the proverbials, for one – General Motors sold some of its classics in the past during the global financial crisis and then to have their beloved Holdens stop production.
General Motors intend to keep on 150 designers and 150 engineers in Australia to work on vehicles for other markets, with some being sold domestically.
This may mean some of the Holden design influences may trickle into GM’s future vehicles.

The collection of cars, some of Holden’s finest back catalog, range from the earliest vehicles, such as the Commodore coupe which became the Monaro and various concept cars, including the Holden Efijy.

The public will be able to view all of the collection at various car shows around Australia and in Holden’s headquarters in Port Melbourne.

All this means that after 2017 Australia’s muscle car family will have stronger bonds with America’s classic muscle cars, being those vehicles from now on marking a certain period in automotive history.
