When it comes to movie vehicles, the devil is indeed in the detail as there will always be somebody out there who can spot something if it is not correct. This is the case with a scene from the original movie ‘Gone In 60 Seconds.’

The scene involves the bad guys purchasing a Challenger R/T at auction and remove everything that identifies the car, including engine and documentation. They then steal a very similar car from a local parking lot and put all the numbers from the auction vehicle onto the stolen car. The problems began when an insurance investigator comes across the wrecked car, so the bad guys need to steal it again.

The subsequent scenes show a 1973 ford f350 with sling type wrecker and the Dodge Challenger, but the very observant have spotted some items that just don’t match up on the cars. A 73-74 grille and taillights with an R/T badge for one. Over at mcdb.org in summary, they have identified the wrecked cars as a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 4 barrel with a 440ci. engine and the stolen car being a 383ci. 2 barrel.
Both versions of cars as below –

Code Description
E61 383-2 Barrel
D32 H-D A-727 TorqueFlite Trans / Some Years A-998
JH23
J = Dodge Challenger
H = High
23 = 2 Door Hardtop

E86 440-4 Barrel High Preformance
D32 H-D A-727 TorqueFlite Trans / Some Years A-998
JS23
J = Dodge Challenger
S = Special
23 = 2 Door Hardtop

Like many movie vehicles, they are usually a mishmash of parts to fit a particular scene or time, but it’s great to see the ultra-observant spotting exactly what each individual car is in this case.
