Future cars: The Wild Designs Of The 50s and 60s.

Back in the 1960’s, magazines regularly put cars on their covers like the one featured here. It was a time to look forward, a time of the space race and a time when we thought by now, we would have colonized the stars and be travelling around in flying cars and the like, possibly powered by nuclear fuel.

However, almost nothing that was written in the 50’s or 60’s ever came close to what happened.
Some design aspects have obviously followed through to today and the wilder designs were left on the drawing board or as prototypes, but the innocence of the 50s and 60s were inspirational.
In a landscape where everything was analog, no Internet, limited information and media, your imagination could go wild with the possibilities of future travel and design. It seemed anything was possible in the future.

Without these wild concepts of yesteryear, we potentially would not have the designs we have today, where people stretched their imaginations, with some being wilder than a Salvador Dali painting.

Can you imagine driving around in this car? Would it fit in the garage or do we fold it up like they did in the Jetsons cartoons? Who knows, without these wild car designs the automotive landscape would look a lot different.

…still waiting for my hover board…….
