Ford GT40 Completely Kills A Dodge Charger Hellcat

This video should warm the hearts of Ford lovers out there. It features a heads up race between a Superformance replica Ford GT40 and a Dodge Charger Hellcat. The original GT40 was made in response to beating Ferrari at Le Mans which ended up in four straight wins between 1966 and 1969. A blank cheque was sent to Carroll Shelby to do the job, which helped to cement his tenure with Ford. Although real versions are now stored away, replicas such as this one are almost as good in both handling and performance.

You would think that a modern day Dodge Charger Hellcat would easily beat a replica GT40, but the GT40 has a weight advantage of only 2,700 pounds compared to the Hellcats 4,575 pounds. There’s not much difference in drag coefficients, so it’s the difference in weight that makes the difference here.

Both are impressive vehicles, but the GT40 shows to great aplomb how an old design can still cut the mustard when it needs to.
