The First 1969 Dodge Charger 500 In Amazing condition

The 1969 Dodge Charger 500 was built to get back at Ford during the NASCAR season, dropping a 426 Hemi V8 engine into a 1968 Charger R/T for public release. During windtunnel testing it was found that the grille, back window shape and rear roof section of the Charger caused aerodynamic problems at high speed during racing, so the grille was replaced with the one from the Coronet, the backlights and the surrounding sheet metal were reshaped. The car didn’t perform as well as expected, which led onto the creation of the Dodge Charger Daytona.

500 of these vehicles (some say 392) were eventually made with a standard 440 Magnum engine and only 67 being produced with the 426 Hemi engine.

The Manny Collection in Ontario owns the very first Charger 500 ever built. It was apparently used by Dodge at car shows and for promotional purposes and has the 426 Hemi engine with a four speed Hurst shifter. It was the first Charger of 500 ordered by the Dodge News Bureau, 1 of 15 with the Hemi engine and A833 four-speed manual transmission and the only one with a Hemi engine, 4 speed, red paint C5X black cloth and vinyl interior and power windows.
