Find Of The Day: 1968 Dodge Charger 500ci
By David Ashton
Most of the muscle car finds we list are from the US, but by happy accident, we found this one which from Ebay US but is actually located in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.
So, this find will probably appeal to our Aussie cousins, more than anything or if you wanted to import the car.
This 1968 Dodge Charger was originally a barn find found in the US, which was all original, with little rust and still running. Whoever had this car over the years have done a great job in keeping the rust at bay.
The car was given an initial brush up with a new paint job, new vinyl roof, new carpet, new seat covers and new heater radiator.
The present owner pulled the original 383ci engine and transmission and replaced it with a 500ci stroker engine and a manual 727 torque flight transmission. this motor has a Eagle rotating assembly, custom forged Diamond pistons and file fit rings.
It also houses Edelbrock Victor heads and manifold, a solid roller cam with new Morell roller lifters, Smith Bros pushrods, stainless valves, roller rockers, Holley 1050 dominator carby, TTI 2″ stepped headers, to name but a few.
All this adds up to 560hp.
The transmission is a full manual reverse pattern, rollerised, lightened 727 with tranbrake and TCE convertor and shifts via a TCI outlaw shifter.
The rear has a 8 3/4″ diff with a full spool, heavy duty yoke and 4:11 gears all from Yukon.
Rims are steel wheels 15×4 & 15×10’s with dog dish hub caps and M/T SR front tyres and drag radial 295 30’s on the back.
All in, for an original like this one, its def. worth shortlisting.

Price: AU $69,990.00/US $52,583.49
