Dodge Demon hits 60 mph in 2.1 seconds IF You Roll
By Dave Ashton
The unveiling of the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon brought with it the fastest muscle car in history with the most powerful V8 engine. This also meant the fastest quarter mile time and 0-60mph time of 2.3 seconds. All of this completely verified.
Technically though the Dodge Demon is capable of doing 2.1 seconds for a 0-60mph time, but with the caveats of needing the optional Direct Connection powertrain controller, only one seat and running 100-octane racing fuel. This is only possible, though with a rollout which is 7 inches of rolling before the first and second stage lights up the drag strip. This technically means this isn’t a 0 mph start time.
A Tesla Model S P100D run by Motor Trend claimed a 0-60 mph time of 2.28 seconds, but did include a rollout. Without the rollout the time would have been slower 2.53 seconds.
Drag slicks and other minor upgrades are yet to be tested on the Dodge Demon, which means that 2.3 second time is sure to be sliced down as owners test out what can be done with this new beast.
Head of Passenger Cars at FCA North America, Tim Kuniskis. “Lately some people are trying to go for big stats, so they are including rollout, and they are being honest.” “Zero to 60 pure is 2.3 seconds, but with rollout it’s 2.1, and that’s important because that’s the fastest 0 to 60 of any production car, I don’t care what the technology is.”
All we can say for now is that the Dodge Demon at least matches a Tesla Model S P100D if both use a rollout and are completely optimized. All we need now is a quarter-mile head-to-head video of these two, which will be very interesting to see.
