Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Flies At 211 MPH

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has had many accolades as the most potent modern muscle car with also a proposed top speed of 168 mph (270 km/h). That top speed has now been smashed with a new record set for the Demon. With everything set up correctly and the optional Demon Crate goodies added in, the Demon hit a new high of 211.227 mph (339.937 km/h) at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, Florida over a 2.7-mile (4.3-km) straight.

The Demon contains a 6.2L V8 with a 2.7L Supercharger producing 840HP and 770lb.ft. of torque through an eight speed 8HP90 automatic transmission and weighing in at 4,280lbs. The guys at JBPG didn’t use the skinny front tires as in the crate package optimized for the dragstrip, but the Demon still pulled 0.2 g during its accelerated launch and the 211MPH top speed was done in under one minute and hit 170MPH in less than 30 seconds.

To put this into perspective, the top speed is on a par with the Ferrari 812 Superfast, Porsche 911 GT2 RS and the McLaren Senna.

The test didn’t just prove a new top speed for the Demon, but also as per the video description, ‘After many tests with this car though, we have found it to be much more than just a 1/4 mile dragster. Its power was shown all the way through the 2.7 mile traps and beyond! Also something to note was how stable the Demon was at such a high rate of speed.’

The test was also verified with Garmin and GoPro cameras inside the car and the external speed and time monitored by the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA) used by many associations such as the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Demon is also capable of a quarter-mile time of 9.65 seconds and a 0-60 mph time of 2.3 seconds. It’s also a heavy breather, taking in 1,150 cubic-feet of air every minute and due to the trans-brake, can pop a wheelie at the starting line. For the just over 3,000 lucky people who got their hands on one of these vehicles, this should be very pleasant news all round.
