Behind The Scenes Of The RingBrothers 1972 AMC Javelin AMX Defiant
By Dave Ashton
The Ring brothers and Prestone caused a stir at the 2017 Sema show with the debut of their 1972 AMC Javelin AMX “Defiant.” The car was a complete ground up rebuild starting with an extended wheelbase and a Detroit Speed Hydroformed front subframe, leading to a completely customised vehicle which you can see in this video.
Aluminium and carbon fibre run throughout the car from the hood to the rear bumpers and all the aluminium machined at the Ring brothers facility. The powerplant is a Wegner Motorsports 6.2L Hemi Hellcat engine with a Whipple 4.5-liter blower producing 1,036 Hp through a Bowler automatic transmission and a QA1 Carbon Fiber driveshaft. Noise comes via custom stainless steel Flowmaster headers. RideTech suspension, Chevy 12-bolt rear end, Detroit Speed rack and pinion steering, make up the rest of the mechanicals.
The custom interior is by Upholstery Unlimited, HRE Performance Wheels with 20×11 at the front and 20×13 in the rear with 285/30/20 Michelin tires on the front and 335/30/20 at the back. The unique color is a BASF Glasurit Jalop Gold. All add up to the most impressive custom re-creations we have seen.
