A Barn Find 1969 Chevrolet Camaro X44
By David Ashton
This 69 Camaro has obviously seen better days, but at a current bid of $3652.36 there might be just enough here to make a worthwhile restoration project.
Firstly, someone has added Z/28 badges to this base model, but that seems to be the only upgrade from its base features.
The bodywork clearly has rust issues, with the seller saying that the floor needs to be redone, as per the fenders, as per most of the outer panels, with frame rails in the rear and the trunk only having surface rust it seems.
From a distance, the mottled effect of the rust and peeling pain almost looks quite cool. That’s until you see the close-up images and see the amount of rust on those panels.
You never know, this could be a direction for this Camaro, the ‘ratty Camaro’?
As you would expect, the interior needs a complete strip down and rebuild, but you may be able to salvage those seats, dash, steering wheel and other bits and bobs. If you’re lucky.
One thing I noticed on the interior shots was the inside of the door frame looks purple. I don’t know if this is down to the images, but the car may have been re-sprayed some time in the past.
The engine is a 350ci. , which may be numbers matching, but not verified. What shape the engine is in is anybody’s guess as there are no details and he said to not run, but roll. If it is an original floor shifter or column shift vehicle is also unknown, but at the least, it looks like someone has installed new HT leads which may be an attempt at starting the engine.
All things considered, you may have enough here to bring this back to a decent base model, but that will obviously depend on the final auction price.
You obviously have your work cut out here, but at least all the essentials are there.
