A muscle/pony car from the beginning of the 1980s may not be the most obvious choice for tire screeching fun, but they shouldn’t be completely overlooked. Currently, these early 80’s models if found in good condition, can pack in a lot of features, with the biggest bonus being a very reasonable pricetag.
This example is a numbers matching, 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, with only 49,000 on the clock. It has the initial bragging rights of being a Z/28 with a factory T top and seems to have had a bunch of upgrades to keep it in running order over the years. The air induction is functional, with an added Edelbrock 4 BBL carb., working AC and apparently the only rust hole being in the trunk.(Plenty of surface rust here, which will need a plate welding in.)
There’s also documentation with the car, coming with the owners manual, warranty card and title up to the fourth owner. As for past upgrades, it’s said to have had a repaint roughly nine years ago, but does have a few scratches and dents, especially on the left quarter and on the hood. The underside is also in good condition. The engine bay also looks solid, but does have a reasonable amount of surface rust on the inner quarters.
The interior is also said to have been ‘redone,’ but no specifics as to what. However, from the interior shots everything looks in very good condition, with the loud red upholstery still looking almost new.
If this example runs as well as the advert claims, then you could be snagging yourself a great little muscle car for not much money. If the early 80’s were your formative years and you want to go on a bit of nostalgia trip, this Z/28 won’t break the bank or need vast amounts of work.
An 80’s Z/28 is never going to be worth the same amounts as a late 60s classic, but you can’t deny you’re getting a lot of car for the money here. You never know, if you keep hold of something like this one, prices may bump up considerably in the coming years. The car also seems to have a lot of watchers at the moment, so if you’re interested, you will have to act fast.
