Just like in America where the early 70s saw muscle cars being squeezed and crushed by insurance costs, emission controls and fuel embargoes, Australian cars got an equal kicking when the likes of Ford, Holden and Chrysler were trying their best to give the public what they wanted.

This is why the 1977 Holden Torana A9X is such a standout vehicle in Australia.
Looking like a Monza coupe with fender flares and functional cowls scoop, it was a performance car very much needed at the time and the surprise ever hit the roads in the first place.
