Final Restoration Steps On A Muscle Car
By Mark Weisseg
This Mustang is coming to the end of a long restoration and the owner could not be happier. It’s been a very long road to do the car right the first time. He states he is ninety percent done and after looking it over I agree. I also looked it over slowly to ensure it was done correctly. Many times a person will start slow and then as impatience grows, corners get cut and the obvious mistakes take place. That is always the challenge when doing this sort of restoration. Do it slow, do it right, and do not rush. If you start cutting one corner you will cut two. The project will suffer. Yes, you get your car back on the road sooner but it may not be worth it.
Let’s face it, we don’t have a team of skilled craftsman at your disposal like the guys on TV. We are not under any pressure to get the car done in two weeks. Funny, the car sat for fifteen years neglected but now the TV crew must finish it in a week. The suspense is killing us and they swear they have no idea if it will be done on time for the great reveal. But, just as the clock ticks the last seconds they finish and everyone is smiles. In the real world if you dropped your bucket of bolts off at one of these shops they would tell you to come back in a year maybe.
So, forget the TV fantasy and get yourself back in the real world. Take it slow as the road will be long and have more twists and turns that you ever imagined. Patience my boy. You will thank me later for going slow
