The 2017 Ford Torino Will It Happen?
By Dave Ashton
There still seems to be many rumors floating around about a 2017/18 Ford Torino hitting the streets. Here we will explain why it may or may not happen.
The original Ford Torino was built by Ford between 1968 and 1976. Fuel and insurance prices put a halt to production and now there are rumors of a 2017 Ford Torino GT. Slotting this into the current Ford lineup may seem worthwhile, but at present there are no official statements to say this vehicle will come out in the next few years. This doesn’t mean that it’s completely off the cards.
The Torino may replace the Ford Taurus and may have the same kit under the hood as the GT350, but these are just rumors at this point. The car could also have a range of engine types if released, such as a base 2.7 liter twin-turbocharged V6, a 3.5 liter turbo V6 or even a powertrain straight from the GT350.
Design wise, it is more than likely that the car will follow the look of the present Ford lineup with hints back to the original Torino. It could also be a 2+2, with sports suspension.
It’s clear at this point that there is no official word from Ford about the vehicle, and its possible that the rumors first started from a one-off custom which gave a hint of a production vehicle.
Either way, just like Dodge have done with the Charger, Challenger and upcoming Demon, bringing back some of the old names is a good way to invigorate the lineup and most importantly boosts the whole pony and muscle car world.
